Neroli usually reads as green, honeyed and fresh, a bright white flower edged with citrus. Next to jasmine or orange blossom it feels light and clean.
Neroli leans two ways. The fresh side is green, peppery, almost bitter, the backbone of classic cologne. The warm side is honeyed and floral. Bergamot keeps it crisp; musk softens it; amber or vanilla bring out its sunshine.
Neroli oil has its own international standard, for the essential oil of Citrus aurantium, cultivated principally in Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt (ISO 3517).
Perfume and cologne are neroli’s home, where it gives fresh blends their floral lift. Diffusers and candles use it lightly for an uplifting room.
Try neroli, neroli bergamot and neroli musk. Product lists also write it as neroli oil. Related notes: Bergamot, Musk, Jasmine, Amber and Cedar.
Counts from the ScentSearch catalogue, 3 October 2026. Scent descriptions are how the note typically reads in finished products, not a composition of any one bottle.
