ScentSearch (“we”, “our”, or “us”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our website.

1. Information We Collect

We collect very little:

• IP address and basic browser information, recorded automatically in standard server logs
• Search queries you enter on the site, which are sent to our search service and to xAI to be interpreted (see section 3)

We do not require you to create an account or provide your name, email address, or payment information to use the site. We do not track which pages or products you view.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Operate and improve the website
• Generate relevant product recommendations
• Understand how visitors use the site

3. Third-Party Services

We use third-party services to help operate the site:

• xAI (Grok) — interprets what you type. When you run a search, use “Smells like a product”, or view an AI insight, your search text is sent to xAI to be interpreted or described. This is the only third party that receives text you enter on this site.
• Airtable — stores our product catalog. It holds product data, not information about you.
• Pexels — supplies background images.
• Cloudflare — our content delivery network: technical infrastructure, security, and site analytics. See section 5.
• GoDaddy — our web host. All traffic to this site passes through their servers, and they add their own monitoring script to our pages. See section 5.
• Google (Gemini) — used only in our behind-the-scenes catalog import process to fill in missing product details. It does not receive anything you type on the site.
• Awin — the affiliate network behind most of our product links, which records click-throughs for commission tracking. A few merchants use a direct referral code in the link instead.

These services may collect certain technical data according to their own privacy policies.

4. Affiliate Links

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click a link and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. We do not receive your personal purchase information.

5. Search Logging, Cookies and Browser Storage

We record the searches made on this site. When you search, we store what you typed, how many products came back, and whether you clicked one of them — and if you did, which product and merchant it was. We use this to find out which searches return poor results and which do not work at all, which is how the site gets better at answering them.

This is not tied to you. We do not set a cookie for it, we do not store your IP address, and we do not create any identifier that survives you closing the tab. Searches and clicks made in the same visit are linked to each other by a random number held only in your browser’s memory, which is discarded when the page is closed and is never reused. We cannot tell that two visits came from the same person, and we do not try to.

If you would rather this were not recorded, blocking requests to api.scentsearch.ai in your browser or an extension prevents it. Search will carry on working — results are produced in your own browser, not on our server.

Beyond that we do not operate general analytics of our own, and we do not set cookies ourselves. We do not try to identify you personally or follow you across other websites.

The services that deliver this site do run their own scripts on our pages and collect traffic and performance data:

• Our web host (GoDaddy) — adds a traffic and performance monitoring script (tccl.min.js, loaded from img1.wsimg.com) to pages served from our hosting account.
• Cloudflare — our content delivery network. Cloudflare Web Analytics records visits, page views, page-load performance (Core Web Vitals) for each URL, and interactions with elements on the page. Cloudflare also receives automatic reports from your browser about failed network requests to this site.

These load as part of how the site is delivered rather than being something we add to each page, and they may set their own cookies. We see their reporting in aggregate and do not use it to identify individual visitors. Each is governed by its provider's own privacy policy.

The site does save a few things in your own browser so it can remember them between visits: your recent searches, your saved favorites, and whether ambient audio is turned on. That information stays on your device and is never sent to us. You can clear recent searches from the recent searches panel, remove favorites individually, or clear everything at once through your browser’s site-data settings.

Third-party services listed in section 3 — including affiliate links you click — may set their own cookies according to their own policies.

6. Data Retention

We retain limited technical and usage data only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy.
